The Nationwide Foundation
Despite the current housing shortage, the UK has over 200,000 long term empty homes and many more empty commercial properties which could be used as homes. The Nationwide Foundation funds organisations which turn such properties into homes for people in need and makes them available at a rate they can afford. TNF also raise awareness of the issues to other funders and government to encourage increased support for this activity.
In 2013, the Nationwide Foundation’s Board of Trustees approved grants to organisations working to tackle empty homes. GIPSIL was one of the organisations that received funding.
Elevate managed GIPSIL’s programme from purchase to completion. Many volunteers were engaged over the course of the programme and 5 newly renovated homes were created.
